The “Hunger Games” team is at a loss for words following the death of cast member Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence, film director Francis Lawrence, book author Suzanne Collins and others released a statement on behalf of the “Hunger Games” cast and crew Sunday (Feb. 2) after news broke of Hoffman’s death.
“Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now,” read the statement. “Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.”
Hoffman played head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in 2013’s “Catching Fire.” He reprised the role for “Mockingjay Part 1” and, with only seven days of shooting left, was nearly finished filming “Mockingjay Part 2”, Variety reported.
The release dates for parts one and two — Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015, respectively — will not be affected, according to Variety.
Lionsgate, the studio behind the blockbuster franchise, released a statement as well: “Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”
